The Youth of Hedi at Saint Laurent Spring 2014

Mar 17, 2014

Art, music and fashion; all cultural barometers, all modes of expression. So, of course it comes as no surprise that some designers put quite a bit of thought into their soundtracks for runway shows. In the case of Hedi Slimane, the current creative director and purveyor at Saint Laurent, the music is pivotal.

Models, artists and musicians filed down the Spring 2014 Parisian runway in Hedi’s signature silhouettes – aggressively tailored suits with unforgiving trousers and boxy blazers. Unapologetically youthful, the likes of Matthew Hitt from The Drowners, Cole Smith also known as Diiv and Jake Williams of Dr. Skinnybones, appear in black and white from head to pointed toe, with the occasional – bolo here, collar tip there – Western riff.
