The Gruen Precision is a dress watch with exotic lugs which give it an interesting look. Wear this piece to a meeting and we guarantee that it will stand out. The exotic look of the watch is not the only thing that makes this piece interesting. The extreme scarcity of working pre-1960’s Gruen watches makes these Precision's extremely valuable and sought after by watch collectors. The Gruen Watch Co. manufactured its watches in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1876 to 1958 and that is why pre-1960 Gruen's are important to collectors. Gruen was sold in 1958 and the company moved its production to Switzerland.

About the Brand

Dietrich Gruen and W.J. Savage founded the Columbus Watch Manufacturing Company in 1876. Dietrich was born in Germany but moved to Ohio to become a watchmaker. There he met Savage, the son of a wealthy businessman and watchmaker. By the 1880's The Columbus Watch Manufacturing Company was extremely successful and in 1897 it became the D. Gruen & Son Company. By 1925 Gruen was the largest watch manufacturer in the United States but lost influence and market share after the outbreak of WWII. In 1977 Gruen closed its doors.
