ROLEX

Oyster Perpetual 6090 "Bombay"

The Rolex 6090 was nicknamed "Bombay" after its oddly shaped lugs aka Bombe Lugs. These watches were specifically made for the South American markets during the 1950's. Most 6090's had yellow gold cases but Rolex also made a select number in 18K Rose Gold, which unsurprisingly are very collectible. The 6090 you see here is an elegant choice for a day at the office but also eligible for a summer weekend. Its oyster case gives it a certain degree of waterproofness. While its movement is an Officially Certified Chronometer.

About the Brand

Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis founded Rolex in London in 1905. The company started as a timepiece distribution company. But it soon became a wristwatch manufacturer after Wilsdorf realized he could manufacture movements that could be worn on the wrist, something unheard of at the time. In 1910 Rolex is awarded the worlds first Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision. In 1914 it is awarded the Precision Certificate for its new movements. These awards turned Rolex into a symbol of precision and elegance. A status it maintains to this day.
