Yei Rug

This is a very rare and collectible Navajo rug. It’s a “Yei” rug and in Navajo mythology, the Yei refers to benevolent supernatural beings. The earliest Yei rugs are from the 1900-1910 era, and they depict only one or two Yei as opposed to the common motif of multiple Yei. This particular rug features Yei-bei-chai which are masked dancers participating in a healing ceremony and impersonating a Yei.
